THE impeachment and the subsequent removal of Chief Justice Renato Corona last May 29 not only raised the bar of accountability of all government officials, it also became a venue for discussion on who should rightfully take his place in light of eroding public confidence in the judiciary.
Twenty-two people cast a moist eye to be the fifth highest official of the land (after the President, Vice President, Senate President and House Speaker), arguably making it the biggest batch of nominees in recent years.
The nominees include six incumbent Supreme Court justices, five government officials, four from the academe and the rest are private practitioners.
